A special throwing workshop as part of the AKA Fringe Festival 2026!

Thursday 13th August 2pm-4pm

A two-hour introduction to using handbuilding techniques to create your own mug, cup or bowl. Professional potter Lydia will guide you through the steps using pinching and coiling techniques. The classes are small (4 people per class) and allow for each student to receive tuition on technique and form. This class is suitable for absolute beginners to more experienced makers; please note that we will be working slowly through basic techniques during the first hour so that everyone can get to grips with the clay. Each student will have their own share of tools, plenty of clay, and an apron. 

Taster classes are an introduction to the medium of pottery and are a way to get a feel for the technique but make simple and playful work without worrying too much about the final result.

Students can choose one pot to be finished and glazed for them to collect at a later date.

There are refreshments provided and a bathroom in the adjoining house.

These classes are suitable for ages 16+

Course starts Monday 22nd June ‍6pm - 8pm until Monday 20th July

Build foundational skills in pottery by learning to make pots from start to finish with a five week exploration of handbuilding. Suitable for complete beginners, with small class sizes of four people, every student gets plenty of time to learn and play during each two hour class. 

Over five weeks you will be guided through coiling, pinch pots and slab building. Handbuilding is a way to express forms slowly and with consideration that can develop faster than throwing on the wheel. We will discover clay preparation, handle making and slip decoration. Pots made during the course can be decorated and fired by students in the final glazing class.

Completed pots will be collectable from my studio a few weeks after the course ends.

All materials and tools are provided, including aprons. Tea and coffee are also available.
